Trading Rules and Guidelines

Is news trading allowed at thePropTrade?

Estimated reading: 2 minutes

Traders are not allowed to open or close any trades on a targeted currency or instrument within the restricted time window of 5 minutes before until 5 minutes after the release of a major news announcement.

Executing trades on a targeted instrument within the restricted period is considered a soft breach of trading rules. If detected, any profits from the affected positions will be removed.

For red-folder speeches (e.g., FOMC), the restriction extends to  minutes before the speech begins until 5 minutes after the speech ends.

Pending order triggers are not considered hard breach, however, if a pending order activates within this restricted time and generates profit, that profit will be removed from the account.*

*This applies to the trades where the addition or last modification of Take Profit was done 5 hours prior the start of the major news or speeches.

What is a targeted currency or instrument?

A targeted currency or instrument is any asset directly affected by the news release.

For example:

  • During Nonfarm Payrolls (USD news), the restriction applies to USD pairs and USD-based instruments such as EUR/USD, GBP/USD, US30, XAU/USD, or US Oil.
  • However, non-USD instruments such as EUR/GBP or UK Oil may still be traded freely during this time.

Can I hold open trades during news?

Yes, you may hold positions on targeted instruments during a news event. Simply keep in mind that opening or closing trades within the 5-minute window on either side of the news release is a soft breach and will lead into profits being removed.

Please note that this rule is not automated — reviews are conducted manually during the Funded Account review and before payouts.

Important Disclaimer:

Trading during news events involves rapid price movements, slippage, and execution delays. Stop Loss, Take Profit, or other pending orders may not be executed at the requested price due to extreme volatility.
